This program is offered in collaboration with the Museum of Cycladic Art.

The Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) seeks a Harvard College or Harvard Graduate student to work as an intern at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece. This program is meant to familiarize interns with the activities performed in a museum environment, and to provide high-quality professional training. The Harvard intern will work in collaboration with another intern, curators, museum educators, and communication experts, and will be assigned specific tasks to accomplish within a period of 5 weeks.

The 2020 internship program will mainly involve training in the Curatorial Department of the Museum. Interns will actively participate in the preparation of the exhibition project which will be undertaken by their assigned museum curator. Added to this, they will undertake to create the concept and content for interviews/presentations on subjects connected to the Museum’s interests, which will be used as podcasts broadcasted through the Museum’s website. Finally, they will be trained in the procedure of registering and archiving antiquities and they will be involved in the work of digitization and organization of the Museum’s Library and Photographic Archive in appropriate digital databases.

MCA - RoyIn addition to their main task, interns will have the chance to give daily tours of the Cycladic collection in English for the public, following adequate instruction by the curators, and will spend time in other departments in order to learn about the different functions of the Museum.

At the end of the program, the intern will submit both to MCA and CHS a brief report of activities and an evaluation of the program.

Compensation and Accommodation

The MCA summer internship program is fully supported by the Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris Foundation – Museum of Cycladic Art and the Cycladic Art Foundation. The two organizations cover the cost of international travel and provide housing for the interns. In addition, a stipend will be provided to offset the cost of incidentals.
